BYOD Information

Creekside is continuing with its year BYOD program this year. Students in year 7 may bring their own personal electronic devices (Laptops).

While many of our students already own a laptop, some parents have contacted us to ask, “If I wanted to purchase a laptop for my child, what would you recommend?” As family and individual student needs differ, this can be a complex question to answer. However, there are some general specifications that can be considered by everyone, so we have created this document to give you some guidance.

We recommend that you consider the following minimum specifications for any new purchases, however, be aware that due to the endless number of options available some devices may not connect to the school network:

We DO NOT allow Chromebook Laptops.

The minimum requirements for a computing device for school use:

  • Windows 10 or Apple Operating OSX 13 or higher (Not RT, Android or other, NO iPads)
  • Maximum screen size no greater than 15.6″(inches)
  • 6 hours or more of battery power (Due to OH&S standards, devices cannot be charged in classrooms
  • Wireless capabilities and appropriate software;
  • Up to date virus software must be installed on all devices and the College takes no responsibility for the corruption or loss of information due to any computer virus
  • Is in a protective carrying case.

Families are strongly encouraged to include the device on their home and contents insurance or insure the device separately

The school will provide preferred supplier/s of suitable devices that will meet these requirements and include options or and insurance. If you are considering purchasing a new computer, it’s important to keep in mind how the student is going to use the computer.

Software will be available at school for download and use, including Microsoft Office.
